If you can't beat 'em

I had to switch my Blogger template. I picked the basic black template (Minima Dark) with a customized header. I thought it looked good, but the template had some sort of bug that kept dropping my header image. After a gazillion reloads of the image, I decided to just pick a new template (Rounders 3) and be done with it. The one I picked is OK, but I don't like it as much as Minima Dark. So if Blogger offers some new templates, or fixes the bugs in the old ones, then maybe I'll switch to something different. For now, this one will be OK.

and just FYI

this site is currently a work-in-progress, so it will be changing a little each day. There are a lot of things missing from it right now, and the gallery needs to be worked on (most of the images have no titles or tags).

I was able to figure out the domain forwarding from Doteasy, so my pixelsandwich.com traffic (what little I get) will now be sent to Blogger, but there is a better way to redirect traffic. I need to reset the Domain Name Server to Google's hosting URL, and I'm not completely sure how to do this. If I do get it done right, then any sub-page will carry over to the URL. The way it's set up right now, every page you click on will show "http://www.pixelsandwich.com" in the browser. So linking to a subpage would be a problem. Plus, I don't know how search engines would treat my URL if it is a redirect. Would pixelsandwich.com just be a phantom URL?

So for now, the site is up and running. But who knows what way the world will turn tomorrow?

Welcome to my re-redesigned web site

and no, I didn't stutter.

This blog is the latest attempt I'm taking to redesign "Pixel Sandwich", which was the web site I created in June 2000 using Frontpage and a pitiful amount of HTML training. The site came out reasonably well, or at least it didn't have any technical problems. But it wasn't very elegant.

About a week ago, I purposely destroyed that cheesy and clunky web site, and opted for a free Doteasy template web site. It came out looking better, but after a few days I noticed that the web-creator was changing all the URLs for all the pages and images into random strings of letters and numbers. Not good, says I. Plus some basic functionality was missing in the template, such as a decent gallery page option. So I had to decide. Do I go back to the less elegant (but more technically sound) Frontpage web site, or come up with another option.

Hence, my web site is now a blog. Google (for all their evil omnipresence) offers free blog service, free (and abundant) storage space for files, a gallery slideshow option for the sidebar (as you can see to your right) via Picasa, and a domain name redirect which I will be taking advantage of soon. So I think this latest site will be OK for a while.
